Awards and Recognition

Nominated for Lieutenant Governor’s Award

I am still in the process of applying for the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal. I was nominated recently to apply for this medal that is given to a student in their final year to recognize their contributions to democracy, inclusion, and reconciliation. I am honoured to simply be nominated for an award that recognizes three topics I care about. Throughout my studies, I was able to take several courses on Indigenous literature and oral tradition, taught by Indigenous faculty at TRU. Additionally, I learned to analyze critique art and literature through the lenses of feminism, reconciliation, marxism, positionality, etc. Having explored these topics in-depth myself, I am excited to teach students that there are many ways to look at things like social issues, for example. A large part of the social studies curriculum is focused on approaching information in a critical and reflective way, and my experience doing so will be an asset to my teaching practice.

Kamloops Retired Teachers Foundation Endowment

I received this bursary in fall of 2024. I work very hard to financially support myself while in university. I have no financial help from family, so this award of $1600 came to me at a time I really needed it. I work three jobs on top of being enrolled in the B.Ed. program and am still scrounging for rent, which causes stress. To have any sort of financial support is a special gift to me.

Dean’s List -TRU

I was recognized on the Dean’s List at TRU 8 times during my B.A. and twice so far in the B.Ed. program for my academic GPA.

Dean’s List -North Island College

I was recognized on the Dean’s list at NIC (North Island College) for the two semesters I attended before transferring to TRU. I remember being so nervous to go back to school after taking a few years to work after graduating high school. Being on the Dean’s list was a reminder to me that I am capable of post-secondary studies, despite my permanent disability that disrupted my learning in high school. This goes to show, which is something I will tell my students, that it is never too late to try again. I surprised myself.
